Departing from Cairns, the Australian Kite Surfari is a three-night, four-day extravaganza of kiting perfection in a secret location deep in indigenous territory. Kite Safari's founder Ant Hadleigh has special permission to bring kiters to this spot where they can worship the wind by kiting all day, every day. In fact, in 2010, there was not a single Kite Surfari where the wind didn't show up!
Australian Kite Surfari is now taking bookings throughout the 2011 Winter. To take part, you must be a competent kiter, able to ride upwind. And here's something we learned this year – take a smaller kite! With 25 knots, 24 hours a day, the boys who usually ride a 12m were rocking a 7m and loving it.
The cost for the Kite Surfari is $1295 and you will not spend another cent from the moment you're in Ant's capable hands (unless you have a real aversion to light beer). Accommodation, food, drinks, snacks and a gas-guzzling 4WD adventure to get to the spot are all included.
